Alfred Aikido 合氣道

Welcome to Alfred Aikido, located in Alfred New York. Our group aims to build an inclusive and supportive learning environment for the martial art of Aikido, and to build community.

We are a memeber dojo of the Aikido School of Ueshiba (ASU). The head instructor, Joshua Thomas, earned a 2nd degree black belt in 2023, conducted at Vermont Aikido. He trained with Leslie Russek (6th Dan) at Musubi Aikido of Potsdam (formerly North Country Aikido) for 12 years.

Aikido (合氣道)

Aikido "the way of way of harmony with universal energy" seeks to resolve conflict in a non-destructive way. Aikido attempts to solve conflict by blending with the attacker's movements and redirecting the attack energy to off-balance the attacker. As such aikido does not rely on physical strength, which means any one of any physical ability has something to gain from Aikido. Aikido it is not a competitive sport, its benefits include: conflict resolution, physical and mental conditioning, self-confidence, and self-discipline.
